This statement sets out UNSW’s policies relating to the collection and use of your personal information. It applies to your conduct on the Intellectual Disability Mental Health Connect website (“IDMH Connect”) at https://www.idmhconnect.health (“Site”). These policies are in addition to UNSW’s general Terms of Use governing IDMH Connect and UNSW’s Privacy Policy, all of which should be read in conjunction with such Terms of Use.

UNSW recognises that your privacy is very important to you and that we are under a legal obligation to protect the integrity of your personal information. In accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we comply with the Australian Privacy Principles, see the UNSW Privacy Policy.

Please note that this Privacy Policy applies only to IDMH Connect and not to any other sites that are linked to or mentioned on UNSW’s other websites, including social media sites you may choose to “like” or “share” information from this website through. Those links are provided for convenience and may not remain current or be maintained. Unless expressly stated otherwise, we are not responsible for the privacy practices of, or any content on, those linked websites, and have no control over or rights in those linked websites. The privacy policies that apply to those other websites may differ substantially from our Privacy Policy, so we encourage individuals to read them before using those websites.

 

  1. Your personal information is important to us

We recognise that your privacy is very important and that you have a right to control personal information. We know that providing personal information is an act of trust and we take that seriously. The following sections set out how we handle and protect your personal information and safeguard your privacy.

 

  1. How we collect information about you

You can use this Site without telling us who you are or revealing any information about yourself. If you do contact us via our email address, we will use your information to respond to your request.

Site users have the option of participating in a voluntary evaluation of IDMH Connect (UNSW Sydney HREC Ethics approval HC220792). Your email address and/or telephone number will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it. You will not be added to any mailing list.

Cookies and Analytics

The IDMH Connect website uses cookies to improve the quality of its service. Cookies are pieces of information that are transferred to your computer’s hard disk when you open the IDMH Connect web pages. Cookies by themselves do not collect any personal information but they do identify your browser. Most web browsers are set up to accept cookies, and while you can set your browser to not accept  cookies, the IDMH Connect Site may e.g. take longer to load if you do this.

We use Cookie Notification; this cookie is used so that we do not show our pop-up cookie notice to those who have already seen it.

We also use Google Analytics cookies on our website. Google Analytics cookies help us understand how you engage and interact with our website, including:

  1. How we use and disclose your information

We will use the information you provide us to:

  1. contact you if you would like more information on, or would like to take part in, an evaluation interview for IDMH Connect;
  2. provide IDMH Connect services to you;
  3. for internal purposes, including to fulfil our legal requirements, quality assurance and management purposes.

No attempt will be made to identify anonymous users or their browsing activities unless legally compelled to do so, such as in the event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the Internet Service Provider’s log files.

You acknowledge that UNSW’s right to disclose personal information under this Privacy Policy may involve disclosure to entities located outside Australia. Where UNSW is required or authorised to disclose your personal information, you consent to the disclosure of your personal information to foreign entities. We will, however, take reasonable steps to ensure that any foreign entities will deal with such personal information in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

We will never share your personal information with a third party or allow a third party to promote its products and services directly to you without your explicit consent.

UNSW may use information to publish aggregate statistics about usage, traffic patterns and other related site information that does not personally identify users. This is important to ensure that our content and services continue to meet the general needs of our users.

 

  1. How we store your information

We will take all reasonable steps to keep secure any information we hold about you. Your information is stored on secure servers that are protected  in controlled facilities.

In addition, our employees and the contractors who provide services related to our information systems are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by us. However, we will not be held responsible for events arising from unauthorised access to your personal information.

The security of your personal information is important to us. All data are stored on Amazon Web Services servers through Amazon Web Services Cloud Security. The data remains controlled by us. IDMH Connect follows industry standards to protect personal information and uses secure socket layer (SSL) technology and key based encryption techniques. However, the internet and any method of electronic storage is not 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We also encourage you to take responsibility for the security of your own computer system.

 

  1. Additional research-related information

We may utilise any of the analytics data described above for research purposes. We may also invite you to complete a short survey to provide feedback on IDMH Connect. Completing this survey is voluntary. Your IDMH Connect analytics data and your survey data will be kept for five years post the release of any publications resulting from this data in an electronic format on the UNSW Data Archive or on UNSW OneDrive.

 

  1. How you can access your information

Subject to any legal restrictions, we are happy to advise you what personal information we hold about you, should you request this. If your request is particularly complex or requires detailed searching of our records, there may be a cost to you in order for us to provide this information. If you believe there are errors in our records about you, please let us know and we will be happy to investigate and correct any inaccuracies. We may need to verify your identity when you request your personal information.

 

  1. Making a complaint

If you think we have breached the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), or you wish to make a complaint about the way we have handled your personal information, you can contact us using the details set out below. Please include your name, email address and/or telephone number and clearly describe your complaint. We will acknowledge your complaint and respond to you regarding your complaint within a reasonable period of time. If you think that we have failed to resolve the complaint satisfactorily, we will provide you with information about the further steps you can take.

 

  1. Changes to this IDMH Connect Privacy Policy

Our commitment to ensure IDMH Connect is one of the leading Australian eHealth information sites means that we will continue to add new information and features to IDMH Connect. We will continuously review our Privacy Policy to ensure that it protects your privacy while supporting your user experience on IDMH Connect. UNSW may from time to time amend the IDMH Connect Privacy Policy, and users are advised that continued use of the Site following amendment is deemed confirmation of acceptance.
