Supporting a person's mental health

This section provides information about supporting a person along a mental health pathway. A mental health pathway includes:

  • seeking support for mental health
  • the assessment stage
  • the treatment stage
  • discharge from a service or hospital and recovery.

Here you will find information on how you can help the person you support to navigate the mental health system, how you can help to prepare them for their first appointment and assessment, and how you can support them at each stage. You will also find information on supporting a person during times of transition, such as moving from child and adolescent to adult services.

There is also a part on working together with the person and their team. Their team includes people such as their carers, family, support workers, and mental health professionals. The section includes tips on how the person’s team can best work together to provide support and ways you can advocate for more collaborative support.
